Mesozoic Mind

Well its been a long hard year at Mesozoic Mind, ending in climate change-incuded bad weather, and I have not made as much as I would have liked. Intrusive thoughts were a big problem for me all the while. I started college in September, so that pretty much put a damper on this blog too. You can tell I've had other projects too the way quality tapers as it goes on. Trying to get two per month like I wanted was a bad idea. It wasn't all bad though. I visited the Redpath Museum and did not disappoint, and revisited the Field Museum. I do hope to resume this blog, if sparingly. I've got a few in the pipeline ready to restart. And in fact, next year i'm going to Alberta, meaning I hopefully will see the Royal Tyrell Museum, the Mecca of canadian palaeontology. See ya soon... hopefully.

With  Eyewitness: Prehistoric Life  we began the year, and with  Eyewitness: Prehistoric Life  we end it Well, it's the lasr day of the 2023 CE, and I've had a long one. It's been a long year that saw all sorts of new discoveries in palalaeontology, from the tiny to the tiny jellyfish  Burgessomedusa to the giant Perucetus , and of course, new Palaeo-media come out. I've seen everything from games to TV series and books, to films, but mostly new documentaries, from awe-inspiring Prehistoric Planet season 2, to the big pile of okay that was Life on our Planet , to the atrocious cheap cash-in that was "Frynosaurs" . No matter what they were, I feel spoiled by how so much new stuff we got. Truly I'm living in a golden age not seen since the early 2000's (same time I was born in fact). Hello, everybody. I'm just here to add the latest RPWIOTD, and something I will be doing this weekend you'll findf very interesting. The River Styx This would be a horror/survival story about a palaeontology student visiting his rural family in Montana and goes fishing together, only to get into a time warp back in time, to (where else?) the Hell Creek Formation 66 million years ago - during a weat season and when the forests are flooded. Stuck on an island, they must find a way off and more importantly a way back to their time - but the local wildlife is going to make that very difficult, as they're mere appearence disturbs them and drives them nuts - though some of the humans aren't helping either. The major creatures in the story, and the subjects of each setpiece would be: The crocodilians  Borealosuchus ,  Brachychampsa , and  Thoracosaurus . Well, it's been a long year full of eventful crap in real life and online, not all of it good, but I persevered through it and refused to let it affect me. All aided by a very good year for palaeo-media, including yes, the debut of the seminal  Prehistoric Planet , probably the biggest thing in palaeo-media since the Trilogy of Life, as well as Jurassic Park ending its current chapter (no it's not ending - I highly doubt Universal will have that). And quite a few palaeo-documentaries have also been announced for next year, so things are looking up. The most beutiful thing a content creator can see I hit new highs, in views, output, and writing, with Mesozoic Mind seeing views into the 1000s in a month, a rarity here, while views for pages hsve also soared, including one of my proudest achievements this year, The Stratigraphy of Palaeo-Media . I admit, my idea for the server came from nearly being perma-banned from the one I usually frequent and the fear of losing Twitter, and I am one not to live without social media, so I decided to start my own. While humans have been digging up fossils of prehistoric life (not just dinosaurs alone) and interpreting them for literally thousands of years and interpreting them, it's only been relatively recently in the 1800's onwards that human societies have understood them for what they are, and have created works centred on them, known as Palaeo-Media, from art of them, to literature, to film and television, to video games. In the last 20 years it could be argued there have been more of them made then in the last 100 years combined. It is here I propose a list of the periods of palaeo-media has seen so far and how each of them relates to the social values and events of their era. Worth noting is that the stratigraphy presented here isn't understood in the way clearly (more or less) defined layers of rocks or periods of time are, but rather as boxes within one another a la cladistic charts (hence the lack of specific dates), and previous periods can still last decades if not centur...

Well, to all those who've stuck around to read it since March, the year is closing with the "Happy" Holidays behind us and the New Year of MMXXII soon to come, and I've completed the first one of Mesozoic Mind . It's been a great time here and have had a good time writing them, if sporadically and unfocused (I'll work on that). I'll be honest, I admit that last point has definitely been a problem when writing, causing works to be delayed a bit more then I wanted, unable to write full paragraphs at a time. But still, when I can do it, I can write a lot, and I love doing so. It also has helped me get more, read more, and bond with my mother. Doesn't help on the subject of unfocused that the December schedule was skreonked up by my mother's chemo (now you know about that), hence why the Dawn of Life review was delayed by weeks, and reviews I had planned are now in January, and I'm still annoyed at it.
