Brief thoughts on Jurassic World: Rebirth

Image
I saw Jurassic World: Rebirth in theatres couple nights ago, with Gareth Edwards at the helm. Here are my thoughts with it. Both the designs (for the most part) and action setpieces are generally excellent, some of the strongest in the franchise. My favourite would have to be the Mosasaurus and Spinosaurus chase are a great example of both, updating both away from the lasts films aesthethics something closer to current understanding yet still having the movie flair. The bahaviour meanwhile returns more to the first trilogy rather then the World trilogy. Meanwhile, the scene with the Titanosaurus is perhaps even more beutiful then the Brachiosaurus scene from the very first movie. Gareth Edward's love of scale really shines in it as Loomis strokes the leg, and any dino lover will cry like he does. Characters, while not nessicarily the deepest the franchise, are likable. Its especially for Dr. Henry Loomis himself, who's a nerdy sweet type closer to Grant then the generic macho...

Jurassic World: The Exhibition - a review

Image
With the 30th anniversary of Jurassic Park having come in June, I had to celebrate, first by watching the film itself, but the day after that, I went with my father on June 12 to another befitting attraction: Jurassic World: The Exhibition , a travelling walkthrough attraction organised by Neon Global, which came to my fair city of Mississaga in May, specifically a former sporting good store now used for travelling. JWTE themes itself to travelling to the namesake park of the recent trilogy. It's actually the latest of many tie ins to the frsnchise, from The Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park back in the 1990's, to the Japenese-exclusive Jurassic Park Institute Tour , which I eagerly watched as a kid and wanted to go to. But enough of building up and let's begin our tour, shall we? The exhibit begins with a themed pre-show about boarding a boat to Isla Nublar, as video screens of ocean simulate the ride there. It's a nice start to the attraction if I say so myself. Neat post...

Jurassic World Dominion - My initial thoughts

Image
So it happened. After twenty-nine years, the Jurassic Park film franchise has come to an end. Jurassic World: Dominion 's trailers were quite promising, showcasing perhaps the largest-scale Jurassic Park film. And of course, the first true feathered dinosaur in film canon. So what do I think of it (without revealing spoilers too much)? It... Was.... Not very good. Like I forgot most of it a day later levels of bad. It takes the flaws of the last two, retains them. What was I expecting? The reviews are under 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. The whole film feels episodic and disjointed. Plot points are forgotten as soon as the scenes end and have no further elaboration. The plot of dinosaurs on mainland US and illegal dinosaur trade in particular is all but forgotten in the second half, which takes place entirely in one place in Italy. The same goes for the dinosaurs, both new and returning: many only appear for a single scene outside of montages, many not even named. Considering how dumb no...

Jurassic World Dominion Trailer! Thoughts so far

Image
The first trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion has just been uploaded, and boy is there a lot to unpack. I'll let you watch it first, then share some thoughts on it. The film looks incredibly gorgeous, like on the level of the original trilogy. No terrible blue filter... so far. Horseback riding alongside dinosaurs is quite the aesthetic. FEATHERED DINOSAURS ARE IN. Better late then never for the Jurassic World trilogy, I suppose. I love the Therizinosaurus and Pyroraptor for that, even if they aren't perfect. The new Parasaurolophus designs are also neat. So is seeing a very good Quetzalcoatlus attacking. But I don't like the new raptors (apparently Atrociraptor ), barely a step up from the regular ones we've seen. Grant, Ellie, and Ian are back and together, and hopefully they do it an organic way and not just in a fanservicey one. Well it seems the Prologue  was not messing around. I'm cautiously optimistic for the film and will see it in theatres. Goodbye for n...

Jurassic World Dominion Prologue Review

Image
Hello, and welcome to Mesozoic Mind! Today, we are making our first foray into pure fiction in months. Yesterday, a teaser trailer for the latest and [apparently] last Jurassic Park film was released, Jurassic World: Dominion , after a while with the fellow Universal film Fast and Furious 9 in select Imax theatres, but been known to the users of Paleo Media Central , a Discord server run by one  Kingrexy  I am part of. Let me start off that the last two films, Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom , I don't like them too much, due to both the undercooked and bland story and how compared to the well made original trilogy's designs, theirs are very inaccurate in many ways, with FK's Baryonyx being an infamous offender with taking its "Dino-Croc" image way too far. However, from  what I can tell, Dominion will actually try for better accuracy, helped by having Stephen Brusatte as scientific advisor (way better then 2000's era Jack Horner), . The Prologue itself wi...
